Lanarkshire Epilepsy Support Group was established in 2011 to provide support to individuals and families in Lanarkshire who are affected by Epilepsy. In June the group were delighted to be able to announce they had received a grant from the Big Lottery Fund. This grant will allow existing services to continue and our new project Connecting People to be established and run for the next 3 years. The project aims to establish a network of support across North and South Lanarkshire between individuals and families affected by epilepsy.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to the delivery of Lanarkshire Epilepsy Support Groups Connecting people project
  • Provide information and advice to people with epilepsy, families carers and professionals who work with them
  • Facilitate volunteering opportunities within the group and help develop service users to these roles
  • Work in the community in defined geographical areas
  • Provide direct support to stakeholders on an individual and group basis;
  • Develop relationships between stakeholders to facilitate support
  • Organise group social events and excursions
  • Signpost individuals to other agencies as required
  • Provide training in epilepsy awareness and the administration to individuals and groups.
  • Attend events to promote the services offered by the group
  • Develop links with partner agenciesKey Skills
  • Qualification in Social Work, Health or Education or relevant experience
  • Experience of individual / family work
  • Experience of working in multi-disciplinary settings
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good organisational skills and ability to work with minimal support
  • Well developed IT and admin skills.
  • Clean current driving licence
  • Flexibility and ability to work irregular hours as required
  • Ability to work using own initiative while part of a team
  • Knowledge of epilepsy is advantageous but not essential
